The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) is a professional membership organization dedicated to the health, safety, and well-being of infants, children, adolescents and young adults. Located just outside Chicago, the AAP provides resources to both professionals and parents through their ecommerce site, shopAAP.

The AAP’s aging shopAAP ecommerce site hindered their ability to provide a quality customer experience. Multiple purchase paths and shopping carts felt fractured, inconsistent, and did not allow for cross-selling, up-selling or personalized content. For AAP staffers, the poor content management system made updating content difficult and time-consuming.

Adage Technologies rebuilt shopAAP to not only simplify the purchase path, but also to provide a more personalized user experience and drive member engagement. Plus, the Episerver Commerce Platform provides an easy-to-use, customizable site for AAP staffers.

An Adage strategy and design team transformed a complicated, 17-step purchase process involving multiple shopping carts and
platforms into a single unified platform. Now, AAP members and customers enjoy a unified shopping experience for the wide variety of offerings (i.e. printed books, ebooks, journals, subscriptions, courses, events, training, etc.) rather than navigating multiple shopping carts. The reduced the number of clicks required for users to complete any given task has resulted in increased conversions and revenue.


We integrated Episerver Commerce with AAP’s AMS, Abilia’s netFORUM, so that members purchases, event registrations, course completions, etc. could be attributed to their member account. The integration also allows us to personalize product recommendations to members based on their demographic info. We also implemented the Episerver Perform product into shopAAP which uses hundreds of algorithms to provide product recommendations based on user behavior.
